WiP #07: Becoming fearless
Fortune favours the brave...

"Be yourself, everyone else is taken."
Where are you with quotes these days, are they still cringe?
Even so - this is one that I stick by and I encourage you to think about.
I don't think you realise how useful the knowledge you possess is, and how it may interest other people.
I've been amazed at how positively my posts around branding have been received when I feel the information is basic, to me.
It all comes back to my #1 rule for writing content; make the reader feel intelligent.
I wanted to write to you about fear today because I believe it is the biggest reason why you are not building your personal brand online.
Have you ever felt like you have something valuable to share with the world, but are too afraid to do so?
Perhaps you're afraid of what others might think, or you're worried you will get 2 likes. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Everyone struggles with the fear of being judged or rejected when it comes to creating content online.
The only way to get over this fear is by repetition, if you were to post every day for a week, I promise that you would feel silly for being so scared in the first place.
Through becoming fearless, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and experiences. We become free to express ourselves in a way that is authentic and true to who we are.
So how do you become fearless?
Start by commenting: Create a folder on your internet browser with all your favourite creators bookmarked. Whenever they post, write a thoughtful comment on their post. This will help you grow your audience instantly. When you post, they will comment back.
Find an accountability partner: Mine engages on all my posts, and he'd encourage our friends to do the same. That initial engagement and reach really helped me clog up other people's feeds. He'd also shout at me for deleting posts.
Reframe the act of creating content: When you tap into what you know and share it with the world, you start getting positive feedback and realise you are not writing to serve yourself, but to serve and help others.
Embrace authenticity: Remember creating content online is not about being perfect. It's about being true to who you are and sharing your unique voice with the world. Embrace your authenticity and inspire others to do the same.
Get over yourself: C'mon, why do people really care that you have put yourself out there and wrote a post. You're not that important!
AND FINALLY.
You're going to die: It's all so meaningless in the end, so have fun with it and just start.
CREATIVE CHALLENGE
This week's creative challenge is not one you may be expecting.
Simply named the "Photo a Day Challenge", the purpose of it is to open your eyes to the world around you and to give you a kick-start to your creativity.
Let's practice
The "Photo a Day Challenge"
Take a photo each day for 7 days. The theme could be anything from "self-portraits" to "my city" to "what I ate today."
The goal is to get comfortable with using a camera and to challenge yourself to see the world in a new way.
Share with me.
How did you find this challenge? Let me know how you got on via e-mail at [email protected]
Good luck and look out for the next activity this time next week.
